What is Therapeutic Yoga?
Therapeutic Yoga blends restorative yoga (supported postures), gentle yoga, breath work, hands-on healing, and guided meditation techniques combined in such a way that it is an excellent choice for those who need something gentle yet effective for bringing the body into balance and reducing stress.
It is very common in Therapeutic Yoga to use props (blocks, blankets, cushions, bolsters) to support the body in positions of ease while postures are held for five to ten minutes without effort or force. Consciously resting offers it the opportunity to renew and heal by stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system.
Therapeutic Yoga is:
- a multidimensional approach to preventing, healing and managing many forms of injury and illness.
- an excellent complementary form of therapy that can be used to develop functional mobility, flexibility and strength.
The intent of this approach is not necessarily to improve how a pose is performed, but to use the elements of a pose to improve an individual’s wellness.
“I have really enjoyed participating in Jeff’s yoga classes. He focusses on the smaller details; posture and alignment, at the same time ensuring we strengthen weaker muscle groups with an interesting assortment of poses. It’s not your typical yoga class. With Jeff you get his personal attention and focus”
